"Which is the purpose of the European Union? Which is its vision concerning the people of the member-states?"

Which is the purpose of the European Union? Which is its vision concerning the people of
the member-states? Leaving aside the political aspect of the issue we can all agree that the
people in Europe share some common values and principles such as the respect in diversity,
the multicultural backgrounds, freedom of expression cooperation and mutual
understanding. And which is the best way to promote these ideas, if not an Erasmus +
project.
During the past October I was in an Erasmus + project in Djakovo in Croatia. The name of
the programme was “Road to Employment” and, as it is implies, its goal was to transmit to
us some knowledge related to employment, entrepreneurship, job market and many more.
The interested and at the same time innovative part of the story is that these project don’t
use the typical and stereotypic methods of learning. On the contrary, I found myself in a
programme full of games, theater plays, not ordinary tasks and through this path I was able
to affiliate all these information better and more efficiently. I learnt things that I did not
know before such us how to do a SWAP and a PEST analysis, I saw how can I improve my CV,
I put my creativity to the test, I discovered tips for a job interview and widened my
knowledge about job management. At the same time I had the opportunity to improve my
fluency in English and exercise my public speaking. Last but not least we had the chance o
meet a local businessman and discuss with him about the challenges of running your own
company.
But this is only one side of the Ersamus + project. There is another one, from my point of
view, more important. Erasmus + is its people. The guys with whom you spend a hole week
together. At first you learn to coexist, and after the ice brakes and you become familiar you
obtain friends for a life. Personally, I did not expect to fell so close with some people. Maybe
it’s the environment, maybe the preexisting good will to gain exceptional memories, the
certain thing is that the ambiance is unique.
Having all this in my mind I believe that it is my responsibility, along with all the other
participants, to spread out this Erasmus magic, in order to give the motivation to other
people to take part in such activities. The first thing that I did is to tell my friends about the
amazing time I had in Croatia. Furthermore, as we all know the strength and the persuasive
force of social media nowadays I shared some pictures of the activities in my accounts on
social media such as Facebook and Instagram. Also, given the fact that I am member of ELSA
Thessaloniki( European Law Student Association) and I was invited to deliver a speech
concerning a legal debate, I took the chance and asked the guys who organized this event to
give me some time in order to talk about my experiences n Erasmus +. From the audience’s
reactions I believed I did great work convincing young people to try the unparalleled
Erasmus + experience.
