Documentary: Alternative Balkan Caravan

Documentary: Alternative Balkan Caravan
Completed Program

In order to fight for the rights of a community, first you have to identify these rights and then to inprint them. This exact depiction, we set as a target for 2011 and furthermore decided to do it by using multimedia and art. This way it was given birth to the idea for the creation of a documentary which would present the life and status of the homosexual, bisexual and transexual rights in Albania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Rumania, Greece and Turkey.

DOCUMENTARY: The documentary was developed in cooperation with NGOs in Balkans. Members of 5 organizations were hosted 2 months prior to the beginning of the documentary in Thessaloniki in order to organize a preparatory meeting, where we were given the chance of exchanging thoughts on technical matters concerning the documentary as well as its' targets and thematic. Lara Kristen, as a camera woman and Alexia Kalaitzi as a journalist, traveled for one month in the participant countries and closely followed the daily life and the problems of the LGTB community. The documentary, following its' montage, done by Thodora Malliarou, is ready and the mandatory procedures are being conducted in order for it to be promoted to Documentary Festivals and other events involving homosexual rights. An additional goal is for it to be distributed for presentation to Non Governmental Organizations both in Balkans and Europe.

BOOK: As a result of the documentation of experiences that the participants had during their one month trip in the Balkan area, a 100page booklet with "ABC-The diary", was created.

The booklet is expected to be published during the upcoming month.

The program was funded by the Council of Europe. To read the diary of the documentary's journey, press here.
